Unique Client Solutions was surprised to
hear that April this year was the wettest recorded in 100 years.
Being based in Yorkshire means that Unique Client Solutions are no strangers to wet weather but the past few weeks of
rainfall experienced across England have come as a shock even to them. The
previously wettest April on record was in 2000 when an average of 120.3mm of
rainfall fell, this April has seen an increase to 121.8mm across the month. Some
parts of England saw an astonishing three times more than the average rainfall
for the month. The worst effects of the rainfall were seen in the South of
England in Devon, Somerset and Dorset. Exmoor in Somerset recorded the most
rainfall with 273.8mm of rain compared with a 86.4mm average.
Not far from Unique Client Solutions in
North Yorkshire, two rivers, the Ouse and Derwent, remain at a dangerously high
water level. The Ouse is at approximately 2 metres and still rising.
Fortunately flood warnings that were issued in the Sheffield area have now been
removed.
Unique Client Solutions found it unusual
that in contrast to the extreme weather this month, March this year was the
fifth driest on record with only 36.4mm of rain in comparison to the average of
95.9mm. A spokesperson from Unique Client Solutions commented that, “The heavy
rainfall across the country has come as a huge shock to everyone at Unique Client Solutions especially considering the mild weather we experienced at the beginning of the
year. Here in Sheffield however we can at least feel fortunate that businesses
and residents have so far been relatively unaffected by the poor weather
conditions and we hope it continues this way.”
Unfortunately according to the MET office
the heavy rainfall is set to continue throughout May. For some in the south
this may bring relief as many had previously been warned about the implementation
of a hosepipe ban. However the heavy swathes of rainfall have not been able to
counteract the unusually dry conditions the United Kingdom has experienced over
the previous two winters and therefore many areas are still said to be in
drought. The spokesperson continued,“Despite the fact that the poor weather is
set to continue for the foreseeable future, here at Unique Client Solutions we
are hopeful that all our customers and clients are still able to enjoy the bank
holiday weekend!”
