Unique Client Solutions has learnt that
Nottingham has had a major increase in foreign tourists over the last year. A survey
by VisitBritain compiled data on overseas visitors to British Cities in 2011
and found Nottingham to be above Bath, York and Windsor.
Although London and Edinburgh remained the
two most popular urban destinations, Nottingham shared its 14th
place with Newcastle. Both cities received 243,000 international visitors over
the course of the year. In Nottingham the most popular visitor sites included
Sherwood Forest and Nottingham Castle. Unique Client Solutions were also happy
to hear that across the region visitor numbers have also risen, with the East
Midlands experiencing an 8 per cent increase from 2010.
In order to keep foreign tourists visiting
the city, Experience Nottinghamshire have arranged for a number of international
journalists to visit the city over the coming year. One of these visits is to
occur during the Robin Hood Festival in August, which will hopefully help to
further nuture the historical interest in Nottinghamshire. The upcoming Queen’s
Diamond Jubilee in June should also help to bring in more tourists, both
domestic and international. A variety of celebratory events are planned to take
place across the city that should attract a number of different types of
visitors from families to students.
