Unique Client Solutions Unsurprised at Graduates Worth

Unique Client Solutions looks into a recent report which shows that graduates contribute to the economy 10 times what it costs to educate them.

The topic of graduate unemployment is one which Unique Client Solutions has been discussing a great deal recently. So a University and Colleges Union (UCU) report showing that their contribution to the economy is 10 times what they cost the government to educate them is unsurprising. The customer acquisitions firm looks into the report in more detail.

The report reveals that graduates bring in £180,000 more than those simply with A-levels over their working career and the average degree costs the state approximately £18,800 per student. Unique Client Solutions finds these staggering figures worrying as the government starts in their latest reforms with the cost of a degree tripling. Their report suggests that these changes will limit the number of graduates that the UK produces and will damage the country’s ability to compete with other countries globally.

Comparing the direction that higher education is heading to other advanced industrialized nations is also concerning. Back in 2000 the UK had the third highest number of graduates but by 2008 it had fallen to 15th as countries like China and India invest so much more in their higher education programs. Unique Client Solutions understands that China has quadrupled its number of graduates between 1999 and 2005 and India is planning to create 800 new higher education institutions by 2020.

The UCU general secretary Sally Hunt said “This research shows the huge contribution A-level and degree holders make to our economy and instead of cutting places at college and university ministers should be looking to fast-track learners into the industries of the future.”

A representative for the Sheffield-based Unique Client Solutions said, “This report clearly shows that if the UK isn’t careful we’re going to fall behind our biggest competitors. We have a proud educational heritage in the UK and it’s essential we keep that reputation and make sure that graduates aren’t being forced abroad in search of work. There are plenty of new industries emerging that we can encourage them into and make sure we remain competitive on a global scale.”

Unique Client Solutions Impressed by Get Notts Working Campaign

Unique Client Solutions was thrilled to learn that The Get Notts Working campaign has surpassed all expectations and got some high profile backing.

Unique Client Solutions Nottingham has been discussing for some time the difficulties facing young people when trying to find work. Graduates and school leavers alike have been suffering high rates of unemployment in the economic downturn as most lack the experience that employers want to see. So when the customer acquisitions company heard about the Get Notts Working campaign they were thrilled that the city was taking things into their own hands.

The scheme aimed to find 100 new apprenticeships within 100 days but Unique Client Solutions understands that with 30 days still to go, local businesses have already promised 170 places and the campaign has raised their target to 200. Furthermore the scheme got public backing yesterday from Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable. He said, “I think it’s a brilliant initiative…It really supports the local city in the best possible way. The fact you’ve almost reached your 200 target is an enormous achievement.”

A spokesperson for Unique Client Solutions Nottingham said, “We’re so pleased that Nottingham has really go stuck into the problem of unemployment. So many cities are waiting for the government to produce schemes and plans but by using local knowledge and local businesses the city has managed to get almost 200 people incredible experience.”

Among the supporters of the campaign are Lord Sugar and John Hayes, Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning. Companies that have offered apprenticeships include South Notts College, Laing O’Rourke and the Nottingham Community Housing Association. Unique Client Solutions believes that gaining experience is key to finding long-term work. “It is incredibly important for young people get as much experience in working environments as possible.
